Google is setting it footprints in India with its new app – Areo, which will be your new partner when you want to order food or call for home services. Yeah we know you must be thinking of names like Swiggy or UrbanClap, right? The app has been launched and working only in Bengaluru and Mumbai in India. So, apart from food ordering, the app also allows people to call for painters, plumbers, cleaner, electricians, etc.
The app was first located by The Android Soul blog, it later confirmed with Google by The Economic Times, India.
Areo was available on the Play Store on April 12, 2017, and it briefly explains about the services in it. Basically, the motive of the app brings food and services ordering on one screen. On the app, you can search for restaurants, dishes, filter it down if you are a vegan. Even book appointments with the local service providers. There is a payment option in the app through cards, net banking, and cash on delivery!
To put it in simple words, Google is the middleman between the service providers and the consumers.
Launch partners include UrbanClap and Zimmber on the home services side, and Freshmenu, Box8 and Faasos for food ordering, The ET reports. For payments, it’s working with TimesofMoney’s DirecPay.
Well, Google has said they are experimenting for time being and not charging anyone for services. And this is not the first time that they have stepped into delivery business, they already deliver items from Costco, Walgreens, Toys R Us, Petsmart, Whole Foods, and several other names in the U.S. In the list there is Amazon too, that provides similar sort of app for delivery and home services.
The app is live for those who are living in Bengaluru and Mumbai, however, they haven’t expressed any interest in expanding into different markets.
